It has infected around 113 million people globally and left over 2 million dead. The global economy was devastated. What caused this Pandemic? Was it a natural epidemic? Was…it genetically engineered in the Wuhan Institute of Virology? Did it leak out from there accidentally? Or was it deliberately released as part of a biological warfare attack designed to cause disarray and collapse of nations & set them up for military strikes and economic devastation? Was it a biological Pearl Harbour? If so who triggered it and why? This book is the third in a series of War Gaming & Scenario Generation exercises in the Tom Clancy tradition. The war game serves as inspiration for a fictional narration in the form of a racy novel. Read on for the twists and turns of a bizarre plot that could actually have happened.

Hardcover. Zustand: New. Dances with the cranes celebrate, the magic and mystery of death and rebirth. These are poems of reincarnation that trace the rites of passage of the soul in the flight of the majestic Black Necked Cranes. Each year, from September to November these birds migrate from Tibet and colder regions of China to… Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh. The Black Necked Cranes is the National Bird Bhutan. It is called Thrug-Thrug-Kam by the Druktas. It is deemed to be a good omen. It is a symbol of good fortune, fidelity and hope. Its hypnotic dance is a metaphor for the trans-migration of the soul. If we can understand the cadence of its dance, we can solve for ourselves the riddles of our death and rebirth. Today, unfortunately these magnificent birds are facing extinction. In the years to come will these regal cranes dies all together? Will they vanish without a trace? Will our children see them dance? Do the symbols of our hope and resurrection deserve to die? Today we desperately need to save these birds. In saving them we will save ourselves and our good earth. (jacket).

Soft cover. Zustand: New. 1st Edition. Freedom is an Eagle: Poems from an Outpost is a unique collection of poems by a soldier. Most of them were written on remote outposts in the high Himalayas and are a record of intense loneliness and exile. They record one of the most lonesome sounds - the crunch of a lone sentry's boots upo…n the snow. They also record the stark contrast in the sounds of utter silence that you encounter on the Himalayan battle fields and the exact opposite - the thundering sounds of artillery guns, bursting shells and mortars, staccato machine gun fire and the screams of the dying and the wounded that you hear on the self same battle fields. These are the musings of lonely men far from their loved ones - consigned to live alone - condemned perhaps to fight and die. They represent the stream of consciousness of exile and philosophical musings of men faced with the stark choices of life and death and coping with extreme peril and danger. They also provide unique vignettes of war that are intense and searing in their intensity. All these poems are held together by a magnificent liet motif - the majestic Himalayan Eagle that flies in and out of these poems - a symbol of Freedom and valour; of the cosmic destrudo and the aggression of armies.

Soft cover. Zustand: As New. The 1971 war for the Liberation of Bangladesh was a landmark conflict in the history of South Asia. It dramatically changed the map of this region and marked a historical revival of Indian military power. In just 13 glorious and action packed days three Indian corps sized spear heads raced for the ca…pital city of Dacca. It was located in the most defensible, riverine terrain in the world. Yet the Indian Blitzkrieg bounced the wide rivers using Helicopters and Paradrops to speed up operations and paralyse the enemy command centre with precision air attacks. The India Air Force generated shock and awe over the battlefields of Bangladesh. Like an expanding torrent of water, the Indian Army bypassed all major centres of opposition in its race for Dacca. Meanwhile the Indian Navy blockaded East and West Pakistan and cut off the two wings of the country. Thus in 13 nail biting days the Indian forces marched on an enemy capital, enforced regime change and induced the largest mass surrender of forces. These were decisive results. This despite the American Seventh Fleet led by the US aircraft carrier Enterprise, making menacing moves in the bay of Bengal. This is the behind the scenes account of that war how the critical decisions were arrived at what major risks were taken and the superb planning and coordination between all organs of the Indian state political, military, diplomatic and intelligence. It was India's finest hour. It unconsciously revived the Kautiliyan paradigm of war-fighting.

Indian riposte: the battle in the Lahore sector. 6. Indian riposte: the battle in Sialkot sector. 7. Decisive tank battle at Asal Uttar. 8. Exhaustion and ceasefi…re. 9. Lessons learnt. Bibliography. The 1965 India-Pakistan War saw the Indian Armed Forces graduate from the tactical level of operations to the scale of Operational Art. Some 12 Divisions of the Indian Army and a little over half its Air Force saw live combat. The 1965 India- Pakistan War was a limited conflict, more in the tradition of what the Chinese call local wars under high-tech conditions. Actually the limitations in this war had emerged, not so much from intent but capacity constraints. How relevant are the lessons of this war to the South Asian context today? Now we have a nuclear backdrop which imposes severe constraints on the level and extent of force usage and the time duration of the conflict. That is precisely why - the 1965 War model - with its shallow penetrations , and overall an attrition oriented design, has remarkable levels of relevance for any future war that may break out between India and Pakistan in the years ahead. In 1965, India had very deliberately sought to bring to battle and destroy/degrade the Pakistani Armoured division on Pakistani soil. That may well turn out to be the model for future India-Pakistan wars against a nuclear backdrop. It would not so much be to capture territory but to bring to battle and maul/destroy Pakistani military formations in battles of attrition that take place very close to the borders. The intent would be to specifically raise costs for the Pakistan. Hence, even though our military capacities have increased vastly since then, the nuclear backdrop imposes severe constraints on how much of our capacity we can use in the next war and how? The 1965 War offers surprisingly relevant models and lessons. Hence, the urgent need to study it in detail and trawl it for useful lessons. The strong point of this book is its attempt to provide an objective and balanced account that takes advantage of memoirs published by combatants on both sides. This war provided an excellent learning opportunity for our senior military leadership and set in train a historical process which culminated in a decisive defeat for Pakistan in the 1971 War.

The abject failure of the quit India movement of Mahatma Gandhi. 4. The Clement Attlee-Chakrabarty dialogue. 5. Reports of the provincial governors. 8. Intelligence bureau s report on INA trials. 9. Endgame in London. 10. A summation: rectifying history. 11. Epilogue: nation state and nationalism in India. Appendix. Bibliography. This book seeks to answer a seminal question about Nation state formation in Post colonial India, Who got us our Freedom and how? Was it due to the violence of Bose and His INA- or was it due to the peaceful and non-violent agitation of Mahatma Gandhi? Where we are going depends a lot on where we came from. The author has painstakingly analysed the documents now available in the British Transfer of Power Archives. He has methodically identified the key British decision makers in London and New Delhi in the critical period from 1945-1947, and examined their letters and reports about the INA trials and their violent aftermath (November-December 1945) and then the mutiny in the Royal Indian Navy (February 1946). Relevant letters from the Viceroy and military appreciation of the situation by Fd Mshl Auchinleck, along with reports from the Governors of the various provinces, as also the report of the Director IB, have been reproduced in the original along with Letters from the Prime minister Lord Clement Attlee and Secretary of state for India, Pethik Lawerence. The documentary paper trail is chillingly clear. The British were shaken by the wide spread violence in support of the INA and the serious question mark it raised about the continued loyalty of some 2.5 million Indian soldiers then being de-mobilized after the war. There were less than 40,000 British troops in India then. They were war-weary and home-sick. How could they have quelled a revolt by 2.5 million combat hardened Indian Soldiers? It was this stark maths that forced the British to leave when they did. Nelson Mandela in South Africa, continued with the non-violent methods of the Mahatma. Unfortunately South Africa got its freedom only in April 1994. The unfortunate fact is that the British left but handed over power to an anglophile elite that faithfully carried on with the narratives and constructs of the Raj. This narrative strongly coloured nation state formation in India for it started with the a priori British assumption that India never was a nation state - just a warring cauldron of castes and creeds. Caste today is sadly the basis of all politics in Independent India. They wiped out all mention of Bose and his INA, and pacified the state in a manner that would ensure that India never became a major military power. Did the British deliberately induce the legacy of pacifism to ensure that like post-war Germany and Japan, India would never become a formidable military power? Did India become a nation only in 1947.

Soft cover. Zustand: New. Soma is the most mystical and magical riddle of the Vedas. It is said to be the elixir of Joy and ecstasy the honey wine of bliss. It inspires great creativity and deep mystical insights. It moves the tongue to song. It made the Vedic seers so creative and prolific in their output of mystical verses ins…pired by Soma. Soma is also said to lengthen out the human life spans. It is the elixir of immortality the fabled fountain of eternal youth. The fire bursts of Soma give incredible courage and heroism to the warriors in the battlefields. They take away all fear of death and pain. It was deified as a Deva a god in the Vedic pantheon. The entire 9th Mandala of the Rig Veda is devoted to this magical Soma. Descriptions in the 9th Mandala of the Rig Veda (that is entirely devoted to Soma) suggest that it was a psychotropic plant of great power. A plant that could bend the mind and lead to altered states of consciousness. It was the favourite drink of the gods and used as sacrament in the Vedic fire sacrifices the later Atharva Veda and the Upanishads however, make no reference to psychotropic plants. Soma they felt was entirely endogenous produced by the human body and mind itself and no Exogenic substances were involved. It was the deep silence of the forest and the depth of meditation that produced Soma and its mystical insights. That ecstasy came from within. The Inebriation with the divine elixir of Soma has resulted in the most elegant and mystic poetry ever composed by man. What follows in this book are the inspired Songs of Soma which I have personally experienced. Instead of attempting to translate the original Rig Vedic verses devoted to Soma, what I have attempted instead are trans-creations. These avoid the mere intellectual exercise of literal translations of verses that were originally highly inspired. Such mere translations cannot capture their essence or the joy and bliss that the Vedic sages described as madhudharas streams of sweetness and honey of joy and bliss.

Lost Victories, the Summer of 1942. 4. The First INA, Raising the Force. 5. Bose Moves East. 6. The Second INA and the Provisional Go…vernment of Free India. 7. Epilogue: A Final Military Assessment of the INA. Appendix: The Nation State and Nationalism in India. Bibliography. This book is a 125thAnniversary tribute to Bose and his INA. It is a path breaking book that seeks to evaluate Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose as a military leader and assess the combat performance of the Indian National Army (INA) in WWII and its significant impact on the Freedom Struggle. Netaji was instrumental in India getting her freedom. The book has gone into great details about each & every engagement fought by the INA. The INA was the primary catalyst that inspired the military revolts of 1946 that ultimately forced the British to quit. For the first time, the author has examined the events of 1946especially the revolts in the Royal Indian Navy and the British Indian Army in great detail. He has cited British sources to prove that these revolts were primarily instrumental in forcing the British to leave in such a tearing hurry merely two years after they won the WWII. This book seeks to reopen the significant historical debate about how India got her freedom. A succession of court historians have tried to craft a narrative that India had obtained her freedom entirely by the soft power of Ahimsa/non-violence; that hard power had no role to play whatsoever. This is a huge sacrilege. As per the INA's official history, the force had a total strength of 60,000. Of these, 26,000 were killed in action. This is an enormous scale of sacrifice. The pity is that the Nehruvian dispensation treated these men as traitors. There is as yet no memorial for these martyrs. The INA veterans were not taken back into the Army (on Mountbatten's advice) and denied their war time pensions. Any nation that seeks to gloss over the martyrdom of 26,000 of its soldiers erodes the very basis of its nationhood. The problem arose from the Nehruvian dispensation's quest for political legitimacy. This denial of the use of force was thus pushed to inordinate lengths. Nehru claimed that India needed no armed forces and deliberately starved them of resources. He laid most exaggerated emphasis on pacifism even at the cost of national interests. India had to pay a major price for Nehru's quest for political legitimacy. The toll this exaggerated pacifism took, was seen by the whole world in the military disaster of 1962. Fortunately that served as a major wake up call for the onset of realism in India. The problem is that India's pre and post-independence histories form a seamless whole. They cannot be seen in isolation. Where a nation state is going depends a lot on where it came from. That is why this seminal debate on how India gained independence is vital for our future. There is also the dark secret about what finally happened to Bose. The author is pessimistic about the unearthing of the real truth as many critical Indian files have been destroyed. To get at the whole truth, we need access to Russian, Japanese and British archives. The author has analysed a wealth of data. It leaves us with some most disconcerting and horrible speculations about what happened to the man who in truth, got us our freedom. This book seeks to carry out a professional assessment of the INAs stellar combat performance against overwhelming odds and analyses the visionary and inspiring leadership of Bose as a self-taught military leader in the genre of Mao of China and Giap of Vietnam. The author concludes that Bose ranks on par with these globally famous self-taught military leaders.
