Repurposing the "Mendesian" universe Bader originally conceived for the 2019 Venice Biennale, Pleonasm transports the reader to: an anonymous future, the belly of a whale, present day Manhattan, and somewhere near Jupiter. In keeping with Bader's general oeuvre, the reader will encounter a variety of oddities, meditations, and recontextualizations. The comic book also features 5 original advertisements. ublished in collaboration with Archivorum × M, a publishing series conceived for Magic Megève.

"Kunst" ist ein Begriff voll von falschen Vorstellungen, Liebe, Mißtrauen, Chiffren, trügerischem Schein, Treue, Geschmeidigkeit, Unsicherheit usw. Ein Begriff, der sich nicht annähernd genau definieren läßt, und doch mühen sich seine (selbst )erwählten Makler nach Kräften, diese offensichtliche Tatsache zu verbergen. Die Kunstwelt folgt weiterhin den Vorstellungen des 19. Jahrhunderts, was Kunst sein könnte - vor allem aus Angst und Gier. Ich bin einer dieser (selbst )erwählten Makler, und ich hasse meine Scheinheiligkeit wie auch die lächerliche Gewohnheit, die Scheinheiligkeit der anderen zu hassen. Aber ohne Hass auf die Scheinheiligkeit regierte die Scheinheiligkeit. Und darum, in der Hoffnung, der Begriff "Kunst" könne doch noch seiner momentanen Verwendung ein Schnippchen schlagen, habe ich ein Traktat geschrieben, das sich den Nichtigkeiten, Banalitäten und Eitelkeiten der zeitgenössischen "Kunst"-Welt widmet. ***** "Art" is a word fraught with misconceptions, love, distrust, codifications, speciousness, allegiance, suppleness, precariousness, etc. It's a word impossible to define with any degree of precision, but the (self-)elected brokers of the word do their best to censor that manifest fact. The art world continues to abide by 19th-century models of what art can be for little reason other than fear and greed. Being a (self-)elected broker, I hate my own hypocrisy and the ridiculous routine of hating the hypocrisy of others. But without hatred of hypocrisy, hypocrisy reigns. So, in hopes that the word "art" can indeed outwit its contemporary usages, I wrote a tract that addresses inanities, profanities, and vanities in the contemporary world of "art.".
