Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good- dj. Illustrated by (dj photos) Helmut Newton / Richard Avedon (illustrator). First Edition. [minor shelfwear, remainder spray on bottom edge, light age-toning to edges of text block; the jacket is moderately edgeworn and lightly soiled, with teensy bits of paper loss at the spine ends and the flapfolds, and a crescent-shaped closed tear at the bottom of the front panel]. (B&W photographs) Autobiography of one of the world's first supermodels (before that term existed), who was also purported to be one of Truman Capote's primary inspirations for the character of Holly Golightly in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (although similar claims have been made by and on behalf of others). Leigh was a fashion-industry icon in the 1940s and 1950s (as was her sister, Suzy Parker), and as this book demonstrates, an amazing number of top-flight photographers turned their lenses on her. In addition to the likely-unprecedented jacket-photo combo the front by Helmut Newton, the rear by Richard Avedon (for Revlon's famous "Fire and Ice" campaign) the book includes work by Irving Penn, Horst, Louise Dahl-Wolfe, and Lord Snowden. (Be aware, by the way, that the rear jacket panel on the book club edition of this book is blank, probably due to some kind of rights-clearance issue -- so this, the trade edition, is the one you'll want.).

Zustand des Schutzumschlags: dj. First Edition. First edition and first printing. Hardcover. One of Avedon's best and most cohesive book, a look at "regular" people. Avedon traveled extensively taking a portable studio with him to and photograph his subjects in front of a white background which' resulted in stark and striped down images. Features background text by Laura Wilson. A very near fine copy in cloth boards with black and white plates affixed to the front and rear covers and in a near fine acetate dust jacket with a slight crimp to the top of the spine. A lovely copy. (Parr & Badger v2, p38).

New York : ABRAMS, 2019. Folio, 36.1 cm tall, illustrated boards, pp. 352, illustrated. New copy. Richard Avedon was one of the most sought-after and influential advertising photographers in America from the 1940s to the beginning of the 21st century, creating work that exemplified Madison Avenue at the height of its influence in world culture. Working with a talented cadre of models, copy writers, and art directors, Avedon made images that enticed consumers to embrace the new, especially in the areas of fashion and beauty, with campaigns for Revlon, Chanel, Calvin Klein, Dior, and Versace, among many others. Avedon Advertising tells this story, reproducing memorable ads that range from the buoyant 1940s and 1950s, when post-war prosperity opened up new experiences to consumers; through the explosive ?60s; and into the era defined by celebrity culture and global brand awareness.
