The architects of the early movie theaters believed that the movie-going experience began on the sidewalk in front of the building where the movies were viewed. The box offices were the tiny stand-alone structure where tickets were sold. The elaborate little buildings, occupied by one or two ticket sellers, provided a preview to the opulent decoration of the interior, and reflected its style. I referred to these as 'bijou', the French word that translates as 'jewel.' â" Ave Pildas.
