In den Warenkorb[4] + 74pp., 8vo. In good condition, aged and worn. In worn red cloth binding, with title in gilt on spine and front cover. A brief description of the more than 800 items in the collection, which was arranged in ten volumes. Occasional entries feature quotations. Of interest is Vol. I, item 58: 'Winston Churchill, M.P., from Government House, Natal, in which he says: - | [five line quotation from the letter follows]'. See also vol.4, item 11: 'Napoleon I. - Fifty pages of folio, the original papers he had at the battle of Chiclana, Spain, in 1811, containing a list of officers who distinguished themselves at the battle and were submitted to Napoleon for promotion, with his autograph memoranda "accorde," and numerous other markings in the hand of the great Emperor.' The entry for Vol.9, item 1, reproduces over a whole page transcriptions from 'Original manuscript poems' by Robert Burns, beginning 'Ye've heard this while how I've been icket,' and the entry for Vol.9, item 6, contains an eight-page transcription from a letter from Burns to Colonel Fullarton. The entry for Vol.5, item 50, reproduces a sixteen-line poem in Latin by Ainsworth, from 1724. Vol.6, item 10a is an eleven-line entry on 'an interesting and very valuable auto. letter' by David Garrick. Also items by Jefferson Davis, Daniel O'Connell and Benjamin Disraeli, Cowper, Southey, Allan Cunningham and Smollett. The volume is now extremely uncommon.

In den WarenkorbFour pages, 12mo. Very good on lightly aged paper. She apologises for only sending 'two words of Sir Joshua Reynolds' writing', and hopes she may some day 'succeed in getting a more valuable autograph'. It was given to her 'by a great niece' of the artist, 'and was cut out of a manuscript of some work on Engravings, which he had prepared for the press'. They are glad to hear of Tuckwell's 1878 'appointment to the living of Stockton': 'I trust many years of rest and happiness are in store for you in that quiet retreat'. Tuckwell, the self-styled 'radical parson' (see his entry in the New DNB), divided up the glebe land at Stockton into allotments for poor parishioners.

In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Good. Here is a collection of three author's signatures. They are clipped from letters and have been pasted down on a sheet which measures approx. 22 × 14cm. 1. C. J. Cutcliffe Hyne (1866-1944), a prolific novelist who also wrote under the name Weatherby Chesney. Perhaps his best known work is the fantasy novel The Lost Continent: The Story of Atlantis (1899). 2. Alfred Austin (1835-1913), an English poet who served as Poet Laureate from 1896. 3. H Rider Haggard (1856-1925). This one appears to be rather a rushed signature but featuring the pen strokes common with his autograph. Condition: There is foxing to the sheet and a little to the signatures but they are otherwise in good condition. Signed by Author(s).

In den WarenkorbFour pages, 12mo. Good, on aged paper with one half-inch closed tear. Claims to be 'compiling an historic book [.] which has been left to the nation', and asks for his contribution. Provides a full-page list from the 'over 500 Autographs'. The collection 'could not be complete without' Montgomery's 'honoured name'. Asks for 'a few words (as many others have done) on the blank side so as to keep this for Gen Alexander & others who took part in your campaign'. Congratulates him on his 'brilliant Victory'. Nothing could better exemplify the tunnel-vision of the collector: at the time of writing Montgomery was in preparation for the Invasion of Sicily, an operation which would result in 29,000 casualties and 140,000 prisoners of war.

Owner of the largest collection of Modern Autographs in the World", lists the Exhibitions at which he has displayed his stock, and adds his address and a request to the recipient to write their autograph ("Request Register No. [17861]". The recipient of this was Philip Yale Drew who added "Young Buffalo" to his full clear signature on the reverse. In this same year, 1929, Drew had been arrested as a suspect in the the murder of tobacconist, Alfred Oliver.
