The Wiener Werkstätte established in 1903 by the graphic designer and painter Koloman Moser, the architect Josef Hoffmann and the patron Fritz Waerndorfer, was a productive association in Vienna, that brought together architects, artists, designers and artisans working in ceramics, fashion, silver, furniture and the graphic arts. 4to. Ca 95 pencil drawings (including occasional pen-and-ink drawings and watercolours), as well as entries and drawings by other hands on a total of 187 ff. Contemporary cloth with illustrated vellum title label and spine label. The drawings - some of which are very finely executed, though most constitute mere perfunctory sketches - include numerous portraits. Many depict Leischner's wife Stefanie, née Friedrich, others show caricatures, interiors etc. The several signed full-page watercolours and pencil drawings by Otto Rudolf Schatz (1900-61) deserve special mention: these include a number of decidedly anti-fascist and anticlerical caricatures, but also a full-page pencil drawing and a full-page entry with two illustrations by Franz von Zülow (1883-1963). - Schatz's contributions have been researched and documented for a catalogue raisonné by Dr Cornelia Cabuk, Belvedere, Vienna. - Binding somewhat rubbed and warped. Original typewritten letter written in response to questions about some interior decorations and curtains during the construction of a Republican Turkish school, signed 'Professor Egli'. 30x23 cm. In Turkish (Modern). 1 p. Chipped and damaged right side. Otherwise a good paper. Written to 'Zeki Bey' on December 21, 1933. An architectural environment of the Early Republic Period (1923-1950) has an effective language explicitly revealing political and cultural aspects of the Republic. Under such conditions, architects coming from German-speaking countries contributed quite significantly to the establishment of the International Architectural Style of Turkey in the '30s. Throughout the 1930s when the Building of School Political Sciences constituting the subject of the study was constructed, the International Architectural Style conveyed to Turkey by means of architects coming from Germany-speaking countries had a growing impact in the country. Ernst Egli, one of those architects, was one of the pioneers of this "modern" style with his numerous designs, and his educator and manager identity. Egli, son of Johann Jakob Egli, (1840-1918) carried out significant works in the field of educational buildings which he dealt with cautiously and fastidiously and explicitly regarded as a symbol of prestige. Primarily educational buildings together with National Education Ministry Construction Office management, Istanbul Fine Arts Academy Architecture Branch management, and teaching, design, and application of important public buildings in Ankara are among the said studies. He was working a lot in the Middle East, and among other projects he was designing the palace of the Saudi Royal Familly, as well as the restauration of culturall monumetns in the arabic region. But also he disigned houses in France and in Austria. Here is a Christmas Greetin for a friend with 6 drawings and felicitations. '.I would be happy to see you again -to talk, because Paris is n ow more familiar for em than Vienna.'.

To the graphologist Fritz Schweighofer, expressing his interest in Schweighofer's research on graphology and asking for an analysis of these handwritten lines: "Ihre Forschungsarbeit, die sich auf Handschriften als Charakterausdruck bezieht, ist von grossem und allgemeinem Interesse. Vielleicht darf man erfahren was Ihre Experten in solch ein paar Zeilen finden können [.]". - Slightly wrinkled, some traces of mounting.

Design for an ivory letter opener with silver dedication plaque, to be gifted by the citizens' association of Vienna's 5th district on the occasion of the 50th birthday of the painter Joseph Sturm. - The pencil sketch of the plaque is executed on Wagner's printed stationery; the ink sketch on tracing paper, coloured with blue crayon, is torn through the middle and shows slight edge damage; both items show traces of paperclips.

To Mildred Sloane, the wife of artist and architect Blanding Sloane (1886-1975), regarding the trip to New Mexico: "[.] It looks like there will be an interesting time in New Mexiko this summer and I appreciate the possibility to see something of it. Just spoke at the San Francisco convention of the Federation of Arts. The convention at the University of Mexico offers a fine platform, I am sure, and I thought of showing a few slides too [.]". - On headed paper.

To the artist and architect Blanding Sloane (1886-1975), asking him for suggestions regarding blueprints for "a crafts center to be erected adjacent to a Mexican Housing Project on which I was and am the consultant", and making arrangements to visit New Mexico for a lecture. Neutra also tells Sloan he has recommended that the National Youth Administration (of which Neutra was regional director) employ Sloan to help oversee the project. - On stationery with headed paper.

Mostly large 8vo. Altogether 4½ pp. on 7 ff. Comprises 4 envelopes. Interesting letters to the German sculptor Rudolf von Weyr (1847-1914), on the monument for the Viennese mayor Karl Lueger, for which Wagner had submitted a draft which was rewarded afterwards but was not realized. The draft, which was finally selected from 53 submitted designs, came from the Austrian sculptor Joseph Muellner - Each letter on headed paper.
