With annotation in manuscript ink noting the film's title on the border of the recto, and a stamp on the recto identifying the film, actors, and studio, as well as the film's release date. Loosely based on the life of composer Johann Strauss II. A musician is fired from his clerical job leading him to pursue music, eventually becoming the most celebrated composer in Vienna even by the Kaiser, despite his musical roots in revolutionary politics. Set in 1845 Vienna, shot on location in Chico, California. 10 x 8 inches. Very Good plus, with pinholes and slight creasing at the corners.

Vintage film program for the 1933 film. With a striking image of Dietrich on the front wrapper, and much detail throughout regarding the production. Based on the novel by Hermann Suermann and the play by Edward Sheldon, about a country orphan who goes to Berlin to live with her aunt and who becomes the model for a handsome sculptor. Director Rouben Mamoulian made the film simply and without artifice, a great departure from Dietrich's work with Josef von Sternberg. Filmed and released prior to the stringent Production Code, the filmmakers were allowed to display the full nude statue of Dietrich on the program's cover, for which she reportedly posed. An interesting example of Hollywood's attempts to recreate on US soil the Berlin that Marlene Dietrich came from, onscreen a beautiful place, in reality a city that ultimately rejected her. In addition to the photos and biographical information, the program contains a detailed and interesting essay to this effect, "Again a Gay and Friendly Berlin," with several photographs of cameras, Mamoulian, and Dietrich on the set. Loosely based on the 1903 Sherlock Holmes short story "The Adventure of the Dancing Men," by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The fourth Sherlock Holmes movie starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, and the second produced at Universal Studios. Preceded by "Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror" (1942), directed by John Rawlins, and followed by "Sherlock Holmes in Washington" (1943), also directed by Roy William Neill (who would go on to direct all subsequent Holmes films at Universal). Watson and Holmes, transplanted from their usual Victorian setting, now in England in the midst of WWII, have to protect Swiss scientist Dr. Franz Tobel and his invention, an advanced bomb site, from falling into the hands Nazi Germany, as well as Holmes' arch-nemesis, Professor Moriarty (Lionel Atwill).
