Barbiers, landscape- and wall paper painter in Amsterdam; from 1769-1807 tax officer, then he devoted himself entirely to artistry (Scheen 1981); copied a painting by Jacob van Ruisdael from the Baron Nagel collection at the Auction J.B. Mettenbrinck, April 16, 1861, no. 75; from 1807 also restorer.A recurrent subject in Hulswit's oeuvre. However, the lack of a framing line would be quite an unusual feature. Drawing in pen and black ink, washed in gray; total: 151 x 203 mm; a piece of tape in verso is seen through the paper; some rubbing otherwise in good condition. Scheen, p 529.
