Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Advanced Technologies in Electric Vehicles: Challenges and Future Research Developments discusses fundamental and advanced concepts, challenges, and future perspectives surrounding EVs. Sections cover advances and long-term challenges such as battery life span, efficiency, and power management systems. In addition, the book covers all aspects of the EV field, including vehicle performance, configuration, control strategy, design methodology, modeling and simulation for different conventional and modern vehicles based on mathematical equations. By tackling the fundamentals, theory and design of conventional electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), and fuel cell vehicles (FCVs), this book presents a comprehensive reference. Investment in hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) technology research has been increasing steadily in recent years, both from governments and within companies. The role of the combustion engine in causing climate change has put the automobile industry on a path of rapid evolution towards electric vehicles, bringing experts with a range of backgrounds into the field.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Thermal Ablation Therapy: Theory and Simulation includes detailed theoretical and technical concepts of thermal ablation therapy in different body organs. Concepts of ablation technology based on different thermal ablation methods are introduced, along with changes in the tissues' mechanical properties due to thermal denaturation. The book emphasizes the mathematical and engineering concepts of RF and MW energy propagation through tissues and where high heating rates produced by MW systems can overcome the heat-sink effects from nearby vessels. The design and tuning of the MW antennas to deliver energy efficiently to specific organ systems such as the liver or lung is also covered.

However, many computations do not require interaction with the user, and the user may therefore want to run these computations 'absentee' (or user not present). A mechanism is presented which provides for the handling of absentee computations in a multiple-access computer system. The design is intended to be implementation-independent; the specifications for each module in the mechanism are presented in terms of the primitive functions which comprise the module. Perhaps the most novel features of the design are the ability for a user to switch one of his computations from interactive to absentee (and vice versa), the ability for the system to temporarily suspend and then continue absentee computations to aid in maintaining an efficient absentee-interactive workload on the system, the ability for system administrative personnel to apportion system resources between interactive and absentee computations in order to place emphasis upon a particular mode during certain periods of operation, and the multiple-computation-stream facility of the system which allows the user to attach priorities to his absentee computations by placing the computations in either low-, standard-, or high-priority streams.''('Abstract').
