Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The United States Army continues the transformation process to the Future Force. As the transition continues, the Army must balance the sustainment requirements of the soldiers in the field with the desire to reduce the logistics tail of the force and make a smaller, more strategically deployable force. To do this the Army has turned to civilian business practices to adapt ways of increasing efficiency in the distribution system. To understand the ideas that the Army was adapting, this study looked at civilian distribution systems. It reveals that civilian business practices are effective because they integrate many key pieces into in a system that produces results when operated effectively. This is what the Army wants to achieve. A review of the Army 's sustainment operations in OIF revealed that the Army failed at its initial attempt at incorporating civilian business principles into its sustainment operations. The Army failed because it did not provide sufficient focus on actually establishing the system at the start of operations. In addition, the Army has not demonstrated the commitment to providing the resources that are necessary to achieve success. The potential exists for the Army to be successful in adapting civilian practices. The answers lie in correcting the command structure of the theater logistics organization, investing in the hardware that soldiers need to accurately track and manage supplies as they do in civilian systems, and in establishing the theater sustainment structure early in the process. The Army should continue to pursue transformation of the sustainment system with the focus on accepting that there are compromises that must be made between efficiency and effectiveness.

In den WarenkorbCloth. Zustand: Very Good. Not Stated (illustrator). First edition. An interesting association copy of this extensive study on Uganda, signed by the author to his uncle-in-law. The first edition of this work.Signed by the author to the half-title, 'Haughton E. Jackson, with love from Robert P. Ashe'. Edmund Haughton Jackson was the uncle of Ashe's wife, Emma Lena Edith Jackson. Jackson was the author of 'The True Story of the Clithroe Abduction', detailing his long battle with his wife, Emily. After marrying, Edmund went to New Zealand, though his wife refused to join him and he eventually returned. However, upon his return to England, Emily refused to see him, after which he applied to the court of a restitution of conjugal rights. He was granted the custody of Emily, but she still refused. Edmund, at the end of his tether, abducted Emily one Sunday morning as she and her sister were leaving church. Emily was imprisoned in Edmund's house, the police refusing to enter the house to retrieve her as 'a man's house is his castle'. Eventually a higher court granted Emily's freedom, the judgement setting a precedent for the rights of women within marriage.Illustrated with a frontispiece, ten plates, and sixteen in-text photographs.Collated, complete. Two pages of publisher's adverts to the rear.An enthralling study on Uganda, looking at the rich culture and long history of the country.Ashe was a missionary in Uganda, joining the Church Missionary Society in 1882.
