Solida legatura settecentesca in mezza pergamena con piccole punte, dorso liscio on titoli in oro su tassello. Solo una leggera gora al m…argine bianco delle prime carte, peraltro esemplare genuino ed in ottimo stato di conservazione. Prima edizione, molto rara, soprattutto a reperirsi completa di entrambe le parti. Fonte di primaria importanza per la storia dell'Europa Orientale (segnatamente l'Ungheria e l'odierna Romania) nel Rinascimento. E' opinione comune, suffragata dal Bongi, che il materiale storico di cui il Centorio si dichiara raccoglitore provenga invece dal Castaldo. Elemento che rende la narrazione ancora più interessante e dettagliata per il fatto che quest'ultimo prese parte direttamente agli avvenimenti. Cfr. Bongi (Annali del Giolito). Book.

Bidelli ad Andrea Alfieri, vicario di Provisione, ed ai 60 Decurioni del Consiglio generale di M…ilano; in essa si avverte che la presente ristampa dell'opera del Centorio (dopo la prima del 1579) venne eseguita in occasione della famosa peste del 1630 (quella dei ''Promessi Sposi''), che rimise in vigore le prescrizioni adottate nelle pestilenze precedenti. «I documenti sono organizzati e poi collegati tra loro in modo da offrire un quadro di quanto avvenne in quelle circostanze e di quanto fu fatto dalle autorità; così si spiega la ristampa milanese di quest'opera fatta durante la peste del 1630-31» (D.B.It. XXIII, pp. 609-611). Opera importante e rara, impressa anche come vademecum per altre città europee che fossero state colpite dalla peste, fu molto apprezzata dai contemporanei. Centorio (geboren in Mailand oder Rom, Mitte des XVI. Jahrhunderts - Ende des XVI. Jahrhunderts) war der Sekretär von Giovanni Battista Castaldo (1493-1562). Er beauftragte ihn ein Werk über Militärkunst, die Kriegsdiskurse "Discorsi di Guerra" zu schreiben. Castaldo kämpfte gegen die Franzosen in der Schlacht von Pavia (1525) und gegen die Türken bei der Belagerung von Wien (1529). Das Buch beschreibt die Fähigkeiten, die ein erfahrener General haben muss, und die Techniken für die Eroberung eines Territoriums oder für die Verteidigung einer Stadt im Falle eines feindlichen Angriffs zu beherrschen.- Teil I: "Nel primo si contiene l'officio d'un generale d'essercito" (1568).- Teil II: "Sopra l'ordine, che dee tenere un capitan generale per espugnar una provincia" (1568).- Teil III: "Nel quale si tratta della qualita, ufficio, et autorita d'un mastro di campo generale" (1568).- Teil IV: "Nel quale si tratta del modo, che deve tenere una Città, che aspetta l'assedio intorno, e dell'ufficio di quel Generale, che ne haurà la cura. Dedica di Gio.Battista Bidelli in cui si riferisce che questa ristampa dell'opera di Centorio fu eseguita in occasione della peste del 1630 (conosciuta come quella dei "Promessi Sposi"), in cui furono rimesse in vigore le prescrizioni adottate nelle previe pestilenze. I Libri contenuti non sono posti in modo consequenziale (pp. 167-199: Libro III; da 200 a 233 continua il Libro II; da 234 a fine Libro IV), nonostante la correttezza di rimandi e segnature. Esemplare nitido e fresco, in ottime condizioni.

First edition (part 1: second issue) of Centorio's memoirs, here complete with both parts, comprising the years until 1553 (pt. 1) and then continued to…1560 (pt. 2). The author's principal work. Centorio lived in Milan around the middle of the 16th century. "Commentaries on the wars against the Turks from Mohács in 1526 onwards. Offers a detailed account of the conflict between Ferdinand and John Zápolya, as well as of the battles of Castaldo. Although the title of pt. 1 mentions 'Re Lodovico XII', this is about Louis II of Hungary, who drowned after the Battle of Mohács, not about Louis XII of France" (cf. Göllner). Dedications to Ottavio Farnese, duke of Parma and Piacenza, and Consalvo Ferrante di Cordova, duke of Sessa. Includes four sonnets by the author and Lodovico Dolce.
