Hardcover. Zustand: Good. A nice 2vv set of the 1850 edition by Arthur Murphy (first thus). Bound in three quarters morocco, marbled boards, gilt titles and tooling to spine, 6 raised bands. Title of Vol 1 is part detached . Boards are rubbed, as seen. Vol 1 has bookseller's embossed stamp (Drayton's, Exeter), and previous owners' initials/inscription on front paper. Good interiors, clear, bright and tight binding. Brown edges to top; red to side and bottom.…

Zustand: Good+. early printing. 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 1809 - 1812 Hastings, Etheridge & Bliss and William Durell. 12 volumes, mixed set from the presses of Hastings in Boston and Durell in New York. Volumes I & II by Hastings 1809 with the balance by Durell in 1811 and Vol XII in 1812. Uniformly bound in full tree calf with double filet gilt ruling to board edges. Black leather title and series labels to spines which have extra gilt applied to compartments. Light to moderate crazing to the leather board surfaces follows the chemical treatment applied to produce the tree pattern. General rubbing and scuffing with some flaking to the somewhat fading leather spines; a few spine labels lost and several chipping. Endpages and edged marbled; edge marbling dulled, Vol V lacks a title page. Period bindings remain sound in all joints with sound and complete text blocks, suffering only light scattered foxing. Prior ownership ink stamp of Alexander Burton (Philadelphia area) to front endpage each volume with later mid 19th C pencil ownership of A B Carver of the Main Line Philadelphia. Period binding a bit shabby but sound. An uncommon early American Johnson Works. G++ . Oversize book will require additional charges for most shipping methods. …
