A very good copy in publishers white gloss paper covered boards with fawn cloth spine. The front board is lettered in gilt and has a blue silk ribbon which is tied through the board. The board edges are gilt. In the rare original dustwrapper of thin tracing type paper with black lettering to the front panel stating ?With best wishes? Neat gift inscription, dated November 1891, to the reverse of the half title page and previous owner name on the title. Floral printed endpapers. All edges gilt. Corners rounded. A few very minor chips to the edge but overall a remarkable survivor with the original wrapper. ---- The book is not dated but the British Library catalogue lists a date of 1884.…

The catalogue came from the estate of Ronald Pickvance and bears his pencil annotations. There is also a pencil drawing of the gable end of a house with lean-to by an unknown hand on the front cover.…

(10.6 x 7.3 inches). 44pp. Illustrated with 12 striking full page wood engraved plates, comprising the title, the ten commandments and the greatest commandment, by Braby. Limited edition of 1025 copies on mould made paper, with only 1000 for sale. Finely bound by Bayntun-Riviere in attractive full red polished calf binding. Spine with two raised bands, each decorated with a gilt dot. Compartments lettered, ruled and decorated in gilt. Single gilt ruled border on boards. Turn-ins with decorative floral gilt tooling. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. With the leather Beeleigh Abbey bookplate of W. A. Foyle on the front pastedown endpaper. Some cracking to the hinges, both still firm and tight, and minor rubbing to the extremities, but overall a lovely, highly attractive volume. --- More photos available on request.…

Two double page colour maps, the original sets of endpapers, are bound in at the rear. A very good copy, finely bound by Riviere and Son in early full burgundy morocco leather. Spine with raised bands, ruled in blind and lettered in gilt. Blind stamped ruled lines and strap decoration continuing onto boards. Board edges double ruled in gilt. All edges gilt. Plain off-white endpapers. Gilt inner dentelles. A little minor browning to some pages edges but generally a clean copy throughout. There is a scratch to the front board and a creack to the leather at the top of the front hinge, but still an understated, attractive leather binding. …
