Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Oblong quarto measuring 7.5" x 9.5". String-tied black cloth over stiff paper boards. Contains 300 sepia-toned gelatin silver photographs measuring between 1" x 1" and 3" x 5" with captions. Good only album with detached pages, chips, and tears with very good or better photographs, with some removed. A photo album compiled by a New Brunswick, Canadian native, Mildred H. Arnold between 1914 and 1919. Arnold was a teacher at the Riverside Consolidated School and Head of Home Economics. She includes photographs of her classes and some of the work they do including gardening. The images follow Arnold on trips with family and friends, working with her students, and on the school's campus. Some photos show the St. John river, an experimental farm in Fredericton, and "The Falls" in Apohaqui, among others. It appears some of her male students and friends fought in World War I with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces. One section of photos is entitled "That Famous 104" and features images sent to her from men stationed in France. The Riverside Consolidated School was built in 1905 "with an initial enrollment of 275 students, serving grades111at the time." Arnold began work at the school less than a decade after it's opening teaching classes on food, which included growing your own. One photo is captioned "pull the weeds my little maid" and shows a line of students in a vegetable garden; another captioned "getting the "B" line straight" shows students preparing to plant seeds. An extensive album compiled by a teacher in the early 1900s.
