Reprint, stapled. Zustand: Gut. pp. 21-28. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - With dedication by the authors to W. Haase. - A very good and clean copy. - From the text: At the end of the sixth song of the Aeneid, Aeneas and the Sibyl are about to leave the underworld. They are guided by Aeneas father Anchises, who reveals many secrets to his son, fills him with a passion for the future glory of his race and, finally, gives him some advice as regards wars to come (890-2). Unexpectedly, as a total surprise, four lines (893-6) now appear, describing two gates, followed by two lines (897-8) describing how Aeneas and the Sibyl leave through one of these gates. In Mynors, Austins, Williams and several other modem editions and commentaries of the Aeneid, these lines read as follows: Sunt geminae Somni portae, quarum altera fertur cornea, qua veris facilis datur exitus umbris, altera candenti perfecta nitens elephanto, 895 sed falsa ad caelum mittunt insomnia Manes. his ibi tum natum Anchises unaque Sibyllam prosequitur dictis portaque emittit ebuma. Original brochure. Zustand: Gut. 71 p. With dedication. - A perfect copy. - St. Bridget of Sweden (d.1373) was very much concerned about the decay and corruption of the Church. She had many revelations in which Christ and St. Mary appeared condemning abuses and bad practices. These revelations were written down and some of them were sent to the popes in an attempt to goad them into carrying out reforms. After St. Bridgets death, some of the revelations to and concerning popes were published by her Spanish confessor, Alfonso, former Bishop of Jaén, in a collection that is normally entitled the Tractatus de summis pontificibus. The present book gives an edition of the original Alfonsine collection and makes a reappraisal of the following, much discussed questions: what was the title and content of the original collection? when was it compiled and for what purpose? why was it omitted in the early editions? to what extent did Alfonso revise St. Bridgets revelations? Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - In 1617, after seven years of war between Sweden and Russia and talks facilitated by English and Dutch diplomats, the peace treaty of Stolbovo was signed. This important but little-studied document was to form the basis for relationships between Sweden and Russia for the next one hundred years, before it was replaced by the Peace of Nystad in 1721, and it had a huge influence on the lives of the people who lived in the region. This wide-ranging volume draws together contributions by scholars from Britain, Sweden, Germany, Estonia, Russia, and Finland to offer new insights into, and analysis of this peace treaty and its impact on the wider region during the seventeenth century. Covering disciplines including political and economic history, church history, and Slavonic and Classical philology, the chapters gathered here shed new light on, and provide a new understanding of, the Early Modern period in the Baltic Sea area.…

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Usages of the Past in Roman Historiography contains 11 articles on how the Ancient Roman historians used, and manipulated, the past.
