Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. ORDER OF BATTLE OF THE UNITED STATES LAND FORCES IN THE WORLD WAR I AEF 2 VOLUMES HQ & DIVISIONS. The Preface explains this book rather well and I will quote a bit of it for your information. This publication.is an Official War Department document prepared by the Historical Section of the Army War College, for the purposes of making available an accurate digest of the principal facts concerning the participation of the larger organizations of the land forces of the United States Army in the first World War (the American Expeditionary Forces- AEF). It presents command rosters of such organizations, tables depicting their daily order of battle, their composition at important periods, and under Record of Events a chronological resume of the principal events regarding the organization and its operations. I am offering the two first volumes of this series, - Volume I devoted to: General Headquarters, Armies, Army Corps, Services of Supply, and Separate Forces, dated 1937, 412 pages, bound in maroon boards with gilt titles in a panel on the cover and spine. - Volume II, about Divisions, dated 1931, 451 pages, black cloth with a gilt title panel on cover and spine. These two books are similarly bound and were published by the Government Printing Office in Washington, D.C. Neither book has any illustrations although there are plenty of tables presenting the graphics and figures of this presentation. Condition: These two books are both in very good condition. The hard covers are a bit dust-dulled in both cases and the gilt titles on the spine of Volume I are darkened and hard to read. Volume II has a bump to the lower front corner. Inside, the former owner, himself an Army officer and apparently one of the compilers of this record (see laid-in War Department Note), has left his signature and date. Those are the only marks I found in the book. All the hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound and square in both cases. These books are not ex-library or remainders.

In den WarenkorbMint paperback reprint. 322pp. Planning D-Day: Operation OVERLORD and other plans. Planning for the invasion of Europe started in the dark days of 1940, and did not stop until the day of the landing on 6 June 1944. This official report gives much detail of the main plan and the various sidelines and other distractions that appeared between 1940 and 1944 and also covers the raiding policy before the main event, in particular the Dieppe operation. There are also details of the Mulberry project, COSSAC and the conferences which lead finally to the successful Operation OVERLORD. Highly recommended as it puts the whole planning stage of the operation into context and allows the reader to observe the effects of Dieppe and the Mediterranean landings of 1943. 322 A4 pages, softbound.

Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Presumed First Edition, First printing. vii, [1], 451, [3] pages. Tables. Cover worn. This work was prepared in the Historical Section of the Army War College. It was approved and published by General Douglas MacArthur, Chief of Staff by order of the Secretary of War. The purpose of this work by the Historical Section of the Army War College was to present the essential facts of the participation of the land forces of the United States in the World War. It deals with the command, composition, and operations of large units. This volume contains outline histories of the divisions with served in Europe during the war. Original sources, the majority of which are official papers of the War Department, for the basis. The command lists were compiled for this publication by the Adjutant General. The front lines of the divisions during battle are based primarily on a series of specials studies by the American Battle Monuments Commission and an analysis by the Historical Section of the original material on file in the War Department. Units smaller than a regiment are not shown unless they were engaged in combat. Credit for participation in an operation is given a division from the time it entered corps reserve, provided the operation was in progress, or when it assumed command of a front without passing through corps reserve.
