Just touches of wear to extremities, cloth clean, tiny spot on front cover, gift inscription on front free endpaper, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. Writing at the outbreak of WW II, which was darkness, Hunter had an experience of seeing the light/Light glistening off the leaves of the trees. In the Foreword he asks, "Do we not, with a sensitiveness denied to plants and trees, have it in us to say Yes to the Light? This Light permits us to cherish darkness in our wills, but it ever expanding and integrating life. We cannot argue it out of or into existence. Nor can we exhaust its meaning with words. What confronts us is the Light in Whom is no darkness at all or fever of time. It is adequate and can afford to wait, till every man, answering what may be his deepest desire, gives a positive answer and becomes new." A book for our own troubled time as well! Allan Armstrong Hunter [1893-1962] was also the author of THE AUDACITY OF FAITH (1949) and CHRISTIANS IN THE ARENA (1958). A Canadian by birth, Hunter moved to the United States where he was educated at Princeton Seminary and Union Theological Seminary. He was ordained in the Presbyterian Church and in 1926 began a long and notable ministry at Mt. Hollywood Congregational Church in Los Angeles. His papers reside at USC.

These early experiences instilled the passion for horticultural beauty and the business expertise that distinguished him personally and professionally. He eventually purchased his father's press. Combining the skills learned from these early experiences, he established a successful printing company of his own. He founded the J. Horace McFarland Company/Mount Pleasant Press, specializing in seed catalogs and nursery trade publications. Original 16mm film reel for the 1978 animated short "Make Me Psychic," created by animator Sally Cruikshank and featuring music by the Cheap Suit Serenaders, Robert Armstrong, Allan Dodge, and Paul Woltz. "Make Me Psychic," a followup to Cruikshank's lauded short film "Quasi at the Quackadero," and features the director's recurring duck characters Quasi and Anita in a psychedelic adventure in which Anita uses a hypnotizing machine to try and harness her psychic powers. Instead, Anita ends up hallucinating while never leaving her own overflowing bathtub. An innovator in her field, with a signature flowing style of motion, Cruikshank created music videos for Sesame Street between 1989 and 1999, won the 1986 Maya Deren Award given by the American Film Institute, and "Quasi at the Quackadero" was selected for the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2009. Near Fine, housed in a Near Fine plastic film canister and a Very Good plus metal-cornered shipping box, with Cruikshank's Berkeley address to the box and film reel.
