In den WarenkorbCloth. Zustand: Good. None (illustrator). A very scarce collection of six speeches by the Archbishop Roger Vaughan, all delivered in Sydney in 1875 to 1876. Roger Vaughan was a Benedictine monk at Downside Abbey, who went on to become the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Sydney in Australia. These speeches were delivered in St. Mary Pro-Cathedral in 1875, and were spoken with the help of only a few notes, proving Vaughan's ability with public speaking and religious prowess. This volume contains; 'First Advent Conference by Archbishop Vaughan. The Church of Christ, Indefectible', published by Edward F. Flanagan, Sydney, in 1876. 'Second Advent Conference by Archbishop Vaughan. The Church of Christ and the Bible', published by Edward F. Flanagan, Sydney, in 1876. 'Third Advent Conference by Archbishop Vaughan. Is the Protestant Church the Church of Christ?', published by Edward F. Flanagan, Sydney, in 1876. 'Fourth Advent Conference by Archbishop Vaughan. The Church of Christ, the Catholic Church', published by Edward F. Flanagan, Sydney, in 1876. 'Daniel O"Connell. An Oration Delivered in Sydney by Archbishop Vaughan, on Occasion of the Centenary 1875', published by J. G. O'Connor, Sydney, in 1875. 'Higher Education. Inaugural Address at St. John"s College, Within the University of Sydney.', published by J. J. Moore, Sydney, in 1875. Vaughan was passionate about speaking on the subject of education, as shown in the final speech in this volume, however his efforts to make any progress didn't effect the parliament. Vaughan had previously held a position as Rector of St John's College at the University of Sydney, and had a scandal when he came into conflict with the Freemasons, accusing them to trying to subvert religion and trying to take over the educational system. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, sound. Light ring markings and tidemarks to the boards and spine, causing some discolouration, mostly to the tail of the front board, to the rear joint, and to the spine. Light fading to the spine. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A little rubbing to the extremities. Label to the front pastedown, 'J. A. Martyn Bookbinder 7A Castlereach St Sydney'. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots. Binding puncture marks close to the gutter throughout most of the textblock. Good. book.
