Soft cover. Zustand: Near Fine. 1st Edition. The first field guide of its kind. Original colour illustrated wraps 15x21cm. xiii, 364, (1)pp printed on heavy paper, illustrated in colour throughout. Near fine, lightly rubbed at the corners. This extensive study was compiled by Dr Chris Boland (EPD terrestrial ecologist) with fieldwork, research and photography by Jem Babbington, Phil Roberts, and Irene Linning among others, and opening statements by Dr Omar Abdulhamid (EPD Manager) and Humoud Al-Utaibi (EPD General Supervisor). Prepared for community members, students and specialists, it describes 200 bird species, 100 plants, 15 insects, 10 reptiles, 5 mammals, and 1 species each of fish, frog and fungus. Of these, 5 face global extinction among them the Saker Falcon, and at least 3 plants and 2 reptiles only occur in Arabia. Details include species names, calendars when present or absent, status (globally, nationally, and in Dhahran), dimensions, and photographs. Also included is a checklist of birds, glossary, index, and list of further reading.

This presents the Road Map in English to one side, Arabic to the other on a scale of about 1cm to 40km. Features include settlements of various size, surfaced primary roads, surfaced roads under construction, unsurfaced secondary routes, trails, proposed roads, railroads, international airports, sand, and international boundaries. Included are a distance table, pictorial key to road signs, and hints for survival on the road.

Very good, postally unused, rubbed to the corners. Undated but c1960s-70s, presenting a slightly abstracted scene of oil workers in purples and blues. This is an unusual choice of image for Aramco, whose postcards tended to be photographic. Abdulhalim Radwi (b. Mecca 1939, d. 2006) "was a prominent sculptor, curator, and poet whose artistic practice was shaped by both his cultural heritage and modernist influences. Radwi significantly contributed to the advancement of Saudi modernism, drawing upon his experience as one of the Kingdom's pioneering artists to pursue studies abroad. He earned his Fine Arts degree in Rome between 1961 and 1968, a period during which his work evolved from realism towards abstraction. Upon returning to Saudi Arabia, he began teaching, which reinforced his reputation within the local arts community and inspired emerging artists such as Taha Al Sabban and, later, Ahmed Mater. Although deeply engaged with Western art movements, Radwi remained committed to his roots, integrating elements of Arab heritage into Cubist and Expressionist frameworks, which distinguished his work from that of his peers. In the 1970s, Radwi served as Action Director of the Association for Arab Artists in Madrid and completed his studies at the Royal Arts Academy in 1979. That same year, he was awarded a professorship and taught in Madrid until 1984. Throughout his prolific career, Radwi produced thousands of artworks and held leadership roles in numerous art organisations, including serving as director of Jeddah's Centre for Fine Arts. His works have been exhibited throughout the Middle East and Europe, notably receiving third prize at the Ibiza Biennale in 1968. Radwi's body of work exemplifies a sophisticated synthesis of tradition and innovation, and his integration of regional themes with contemporary techniques paved the way for the development of modern Saudi art" (biography taken from Olympia Auctions, 29 Oct 2025, Lot 55 description).

This is undated, but Aramco was preparing postcards of this kind in the mid-1960s presenting alternative views to those that were published in Aramco World and elsewhere. This one shows one of Aramco's Fokker F-27s (N714A) flying over the neatly laid out tree-lined streets of one of Dhahran's low-rise residential quarters, with the edge of the desert visible in the distance. The F-27s were used for transporting personnel and priority cargo once a week to and from remote areas such as seismograph camps in the Rub al Khali, or along its pipelines.

This one presents an aerial view of the outer edge of a densely planted date grove with protection put in place to prevent the encroachment of sand dunes. It was likely issued to illustrate Aramco's wider contributions to Saudi development.

This is undated, but presents an alternative view of a photo by Burnett H. Moody used in Brainerd Bates' article in Aramco World titled "Search in the Sand Mountains" (Sept-Oct 1967: 2). It shows one of Aramco's Bell hellicopters delivering supplies to a Seismograph Camp in the Rub al Khali, with ex-pat oil worker directing the operation on the ground, and one of Aramco's single-engine DHC-2 Beavers (N729A) in the background.

Undated c1980s. This was originally produced and published by Aramco for its staff, but references to Aramco have been removed and replaced with IPA International Bookshops and Kruger's. Details include settlements of various sizes, surfaced primary roads, roads under construction, secondary routes unsurfaced, trails, proposed roads, railroads, international airports, airports, sand, and international boundaries. Presumably updated by Kruger, whose name appears to the corners, a note to the Legend states "All roads under construction are being completed as the progress was faster than our production". This also has a Distance Table, Hints for Survival, and danger signs, in English and Arabic. Very good with light wear and short closed tears to folds.

The cover story describes the process of loading oil tankers at Ras Tanura, and the diversity of people involved, including Aramco's Refiner's office, the pier foreman and crew, port doctor, a Japanese sailor etc. Other articles include Persian miniature painting, new year celebrations in different cultures, cotton, non-verbal communication, and helicopters.

Dated 15 April 1956 to the transmittal letter by Aramco President R.L. Keyes and Chair F.A. Davies. Wraps good with wear and minor loss to spine, interiors good, creased to corners. The transmittal letter notes increased production in spite of the reintroduction of Iranian oil into world markets, wider exploration and drilling operations and research. While US staff continued to provide principal supervisory and technical skills, progress was made in bringing Saudi Arabs into skilled jobs, and other nationals into clerical, technical and craft jobs where local experience was not yet sufficient. The main chapters cover oil operations; the people of Aramco; health; training; and community development.

Good, creased, with a couple of patches of staining to the back. The cover story describes the Aramco Training Center at Sidon, and how it prepares employees for life and work in Saudi Arabia. It opened in New York in 1948 before transferring to Lebanon in 1951, with 3 US staff including head R.E. Sullivan, and 19 Lebanese. Offering long 4 week and short 2 week intensive courses it aimed to teach 600 words of Arabic ("a language so complex that some thirty volumes are required merely to explain its grammar"), Saudi history, the history of oil, a tour of Tapline installations, and supervision and training skills if required. It offers insight into recreational facilities on-site, and weekend tours to Baalbek, Damascus, Jerusalem and Cyprus. The photos feature the campus and locale including Tapline's tank farm seen through the eyes of one of its students. Other articles include "The Caravan" (a description of an exploration team's encounter with a Bedouin caravan in the Rub al Khali); Middle Eastern influences on modern jewellery; a description of the "Christmas Tree" (oil well control head); and a comparison of wedding ceremonies in different countries.
