It continues with 66 double-page color maps fo 66 provinces or "Kuni" and "Gun." Containing 69 maps in all. . Also shows and illustrates all island provinces like Sado. Shows the five main highways [Kaido], that crossed much of the country. . Each map shows the area in much detail & color outline clearly illustrating and naming: mountains, rivers, towns, villages, castles and roads, with the four directional symbols noted, each map has a title cited. . * An exceptionally detailed set of provincial maps, each map occupies two facing pages about 34 x 21 cm. The maps are drawn in the "bird's eye view" with a charming perspective style and show the water, sea, lakes & rivers in blue, mountain areas in green, important towns in yellow. With an index of each Kuni and road cited. . Nicely executed, a fascinating early atlas. . *** CONDITION: The set of 2 volumes are bound in the publisher's original yellow stiff wrappers, spines stitched. The impression and registry are excellent, all colors vivid and clear, no fading. . There is much discoloration of the covers, with a bit of the typical and usual corner & edge wear. There is some leading edge feint stain in volume 1, this does not enter the text. Else contents is very clean & solid. . Volume 2 the top right corner and leading edges have a similar feint stain per volume 1, with a portion inside the edge entering the maps, again strictly limited to the edges about 3.5 to 1.5 penetratuion, the upper margin stain increases on the last 5 pages, barely penetrating the map area. There is a bit of the typical and usual mild 'thumbing.' .
