The pages are crisp and only lightly toned, with no markings other than a long, warm, and highly personal inscription in ink on the front free endpaper, signed "Tony," in the hand of Anthony Creighton, Osborne's collaborator on this play. The hinges are sound, and the text block remains clean and well preserved. The dust jacket is complete and unclipped, retaining the correct 10s 6d net price and matching the first-issue points. It shows rubbing, creasing, and scattered edge wear, including several short tears and small chips and a larger loss at the lower corner of the front flap. Despite the wear, it remains intact and presentable. This is the true first edition, first printing (Faber & Faber, 1958) of Osborne and Creighton's important early collaboration, here with a notable and uncommon inscription by co-author Anthony Creighton, enhancing its interest and collectability. From the personal collection of Tony Walton (1934-2022), Academy Award- and multiple Tony Award-winning stage and costume designer, celebrated for his imaginative work in stage and film. The second of two plays Osborne wrote with Anthony Creighton, completed in 1954 but not professionally performed until October 1957, a year after the huge success of his break-through 'Look Back in Anger'.
