An annotated copy of the inaugural publication of the Order of the Bath, written primarily in order to justify it. The establishment of the Order was presented more as a rediscovery of a forgotten order. Based on Anstis's researches, and promoted by the Duke of Montagu, the Order was "revived" in 1725, the year of this publication. Anstis (1669-1744) was the highest heraldic authority in the land, and served as Garter Principal King of Arms.
