In den WarenkorbFull Leather Hardback. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition. 1848. First edition - two volumes bound in one. xii, 311pp.; iv, 314pp.and a frontispiece portrait to each volume. Honoré Gabriel Riqueti, Count of Mirabeau (1749-1791) was a leader of the early stages of the French Revolution. A noble, he had been involved in numerous sc…andals before the start of the Revolution in 1789 that had left his reputation in ruins. Nonetheless, he rose to the top of the French political hierarchy in the years 1789-1791 and acquired the reputation of a voice of the people. A successful orator, he was the leader of the moderate position among revolutionaries by favoring a constitutional monarchy built on the model of Great Britain. This volume contains a comprehensive account of his life and work. It was published anonymously but the author is known to be John Stores Smith (1828-1893). The book is bound in contemporary full leather boards with gold titling on a leather label and gold decoration with five thin raised bands on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with some expected scuffing and a little light staining to the leather on the boards. There is wear with a little loss to the leather on the corner tips. There is a small bot of loss to the leather at the top of the spine and top corners of the spine. The contents are tight and clean with some light foxing to the frontispieces and title-pages with offsetting from the frontispieces on the title-pages. There is an inscription dated 1864 on the second front free endpaper.
