An association copy of this work, with two letters tipped in.The first letter, dated 1830, presents this work 'To John Ramage Campbell - in acknowledgement of great voluntary industry - James Boyd'.The second letter, dated 1874, reads 'To, Bertie Rumford, as an incitement to diligence from his father's obliged friend, M. Campbell'. The letter instructs Rumford to read page 35 of the work, and refers to a 'Count Rumford' funding the kitchen in the north-west tower of the hospital.An inscription to this page notes 'the Count Rumford mentioned in these pages was a benefactor to humanity through various researches, especially in the Oeconomy of Heart. He was an ancestor of Bertie Rumford'.With the publisher's original front wrap bound in.Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece, engraved title page, and seven further plates. Rebacked, in a full calf binding, with boards restored. Endpapers renewed. Rubbing to board perimeters. Internally, firmly bound. One plate and two letters tipped in to the start of the work. Original front wrap bound in following plates. Pages generally clean and bright, with ink annotation to page 35, and significant spotting to plates. Very Good. book.
