The spine is a little darkened with wear and bumping at the top and base plus rubbing along the hinge lines. The boards have some surface marking and rubbing with wear at the corners. Gilt top edge. Hinge cracks at the pastedowns with webbing exposed at the front and partial detachment at the rear. The rest of the binding is good. No inscriptions. Page 287-8 has had a small section removed from the column at the edge of the page.

Covers quarter cloth and decorated boards. marked and frayed. Binding fragile but holding. Interior clean apart from pencil scribbles on fep. which act also as publisher's ads. Ill. with many b. & w. ph. some full page and occupying 50% of the contents. 32 pp. of text so c. 60 pp. in all.Handbook (priced one shilling) to this famous area of common land outside Dublin. The title is a bit misleading as the Army Camp does not dominate the contents. There is an Antiquarian (Historical) introduction followed by a section on the military and a longer one entitled Sporting which is mostly about the race course and the racing establishments surrounding it. Theree is also a note on Punchestown, the steeplechase racing course,The camp has gone together with the UK presence but the racecourse remains, achieving even greater fame. The description of the varous properties assocated with the Turf make up a large proportion of the book and will hold great interest to historians of Irish racing.
