About the book >.>.> In Crossroads: Comparative Immigration Regimes in a World of Demographic Change, Anna K. Boucher and Justin Gest deliver a comprehensive study on immigration governance across thirty countries. This work utilises a database that captures immigration demographics from the world's key destinations, allowing the authors to introduce a novel taxonomy to analyse the diverse approaches to immigration policy that evolve over time and across different regions. The study is particularly relevant in the current climate, characterised by social inequality, populism, and heightened concerns about international terrorism.Boucher and Gest identify a prevailing shift among governments towards a ?Market Model? of immigration, focusing on the need for short-term labour while offering limited pathways to citizenship. This model mirrors the increasingly precarious nature of global labour markets and reflects broader economic and social trends. The authors delve into various drivers that shape immigration policy, revealing how these strategies aim to balance national interests with the demands of a global workforce. The book serves as an important resource for understanding contemporary immigration dynamics and the implications for policy-making in an interconnected world. Through rigorous analysis and insightful commentary, Boucher and Gest aim to inform both academic discourse and public understanding of the changing immigration landscape. Their expertise, coupled with a rich evidentiary base, positions Crossroads as a significant contribution to the fields of public policy and migration studies. (LL). …

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - In this ambitious study, Anna K. Boucher and Justin Gest present a unique analysis of immigration governance across thirty countries. Relying on a database of immigration demographics in the world's most important destinations, they present a novel taxonomy and an analysis of what drives different approaches to immigration policy over space and time. In an era defined by inequality, populism, and fears of international terrorism, they find that governments are converging toward a 'Market Model' that seeks immigrants for short-term labor with fewer outlets to citizenship - an approach that resembles the increasingly contingent nature of labor markets worldwide.…

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Numbering an estimated 164 million globally, migrant workers are an essential component of contemporary businesses. Despite their number and indispensability in the global economy, migrant workers frequently lack the legal protections enjoyed by other workers. They work in sectors where jobs are isolated, and they lack advocates and trade union representation. They may also be undocumented, further eroding their capacity to advance their rights. Migrant workers suffer workplace violations that range from underpayment of wages and unsafe work conditions to sexual assault and industrial manslaughter. How much does this exploitation vary across different countries What explains differences and similarities among migrant worker destinations In Patterns of Exploitation, Anna K. Boucher answers these questions by looking at workplace violations across four major immigration countries: the United States, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Incorporating interviews, the Migrant Worker Rights Database, and in-depth analysis of court cases, Boucher uses legal storytelling to document individual migrant experiences and assess the patterns of exploitation that emerge in case narratives. Migrant experiences vary across ethnicity, gender, occupational sector, visa status, trade union membership, and enforcement policy, as well as the industrial relations systems within a destination country. Boucher lays out the kinds of exploitation to which migrants are subjected, the patterns discernible within migrant workers' experiences, and the solutions that can best protect migrants against workplace violations. This unique mixed-methods approach provides a novel understanding of migrant workplace violations across a variety of immigration contexts.…
