Laing enlarged the collection but passed away before the dictionary could be published. The text finally came to publication through the editorial work of Laing's daughter, with help from W. A. Smith and A. F. Johnson of the British Museum. The eighth and ninth volumes constitute additional supplements to the original collection, compiled by Dennis E. Rhodes and Anna E. C. Simoni.
