Zustand: New. KlappentextThe Lvov-Warsaw School was one of the most important currents in the 20th-century analytical movement. Kazimierz Twardowski, a student Franz Brentano and a professor of philosophy in Lvov, was the founder and at the same time .

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The volume contains almost thirty papers by Kazimierz Twardowski (1866-1938), the founder of the Lvov-Warsaw School. The papers are published in English for the first time. They stem from the Lvov period, which is often contrasted with the earlier Vienna period of Twardowski's scientific activity. Contrary to received opinion, the editors argue that the Lvov period is just as important as the Vienna period. Indeed, the scope of Twardowski's investigations was much broader and more profound in later years. The papers concern fundamental problems of philosophy: the methods of philosophizing, the boundary of psychology and semiotics, the conceptual apparatus of metaphysics, ethical skepticism, the question of free will and ethical obligation, the aesthetics of music and so on. The systematic considerations are complemented by concise but excellent sketches of the philosophical views of Socrates, Aquinas, Leibniz, Spencer, Nietzsche, and Bergson.…

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The volume contains works showing the comprehensive contribution of Kazimierz Twardowski, the founder of the Lvov-Warsaw School, to the European analytical movement. The readers of the volume will learn, among other things, how the theoretically fertile distinction between act and product introduced by Twardowski turned out to be. Furthermore, this volume illustrates the importance of Twardowski's defense of alethic absolutism. Finally, readers will learn about the conceptual tools developed by Twardowski, enabling the explanation of the phenomenon of still lingering prejudices, as well as Twardowski's conception of rationality, and about his attitude towards formal and informal logic, as well as logical education. An undoubted novelty of the volume is that it provides a kind of parametrization of Twardowski's continuously increasing position in global philosophy by referring to the complete bibliography of works by and on Twardowski in European languages (other than his native language) up until 2020.…

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - This book brings together a diverse collection of contemporary studies in logic and its philosophical applications, honoring the legacy of Srecko Kovac, a distinguished contemporary Croatian logician and philosopher. The essays reflect a rich interplay between formal logic, metaphilosophy, epistemology, and the history of logic, showcasing the enduring relevance of logical methods in addressing both classical and modern philosophical problems. The rich content of the book is reflected in the titles of its three parts. Part One: Logic: Systems, Philosophical Applications, and Education, Part Two: Justification and Knowledge, and Part Three: Croatian Philosophical Tradition. These parts also reflect the broad scholarly interests of Srecko Kovac, to whom the collected articles in the volume refer.…

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - This book examines the tension between formal and informal methods in philosophy. The rise of analytic philosophy was accompanied by the development of formal logic and many successful applications of formal methods. But analytical philosophy does not rely on formal methods alone. Elements of broadly understood informal logic and logical semiotics, procedures used in natural sciences and humanities, and various kinds of intuition also belong to the philosopher's toolkit. Papers gathered in the book concern the opposition formality-informality as well as other pairs, such as methodology versus metaphilosophy, interdisciplinarity versus intradisciplinarity, and methodological uniformity versus diversity of sciences. Problems of the nature of logic and the explanatory role of mathematical theories are also discussed.…

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Kasimir Twardowski (geb.
