El mapa ilustra vívidamente los desafíos de la navegación en la costa suroccidental, particularmente la aproximación a Batabanó, destacando los numerosos cayos (entre ellos, Cayos de San Felipe, Cayo Largo y Cayo de la Pipa), extensos bancos de arena (notablemente el Banco de los Jardines y Jardinillos al sur) e islotes dispersos.
