Buckram. Zustand: Near Fine. No Jacket. Hardcover rebound in library binding. 37pp + colored lithographed plates of butterflies. This is the second volume, a continuance of the work published in 1905. This volume is confined to species taken in the neighborhood of the Suapure River in Venezuela. Bound in before the Weeks work is a frontispiece portrait of William Henry Edwards and 12pp of a bibliiography of Edward's scientific writings. Very good+ hardcover which would be near fine but for the ex-library markings. Pages are all clean with the only marks being library stamps on ffep, page opposite portrait of Edwards, page 1, plate X, page 37, and rfep. Colored plates are very nice.

First edition. Volume one is illustrated with forty-five coloured plates. Volume two is illustrated with twenty-one coloured plates. Collated complete. Each volume also includes a portrait frontispiece, to volume one this is of Samuel Hubbard Scudder, an American entomologist and paleontologist who was a leading figure in entomology during his lifetime and the founder of insect paleontology in America. To volume two this is of William Henry Edwards, an American businessman and entomologist, considered a prominent naturalist specializing in the study of butterflies. A detailed description of new species of butterflies discovered, volume one focusses on species from Bolivia and a few other districts, while volume two is confined to a species taken in the neighbourhood of the Suapure River in Venezuela. Written by Andrew Gray Weeks, an American lepidopterist. In the original quarter green cloth binding with green paper covered boards. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear and minor rubbing to the extremities. Fading to the spine and minor loss to the spine label of volume two. The odd mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound with frontispiece loosening to volume two. Pages are very bright and clean. Library stamps to the front endpaper and library sticker to the front pastedown of each volume, with the Zoological Society of London bookplate to the front pastedown of volume one. Very Good. book.
