Quarter blue cloth, marbled boards, brown label with gilt titles to spine (rubbed). The original thin card pictorial wrappers (somewhat dusty) are bound in. Ink stamps on the right top and bottom of the front wrapper and the title page have been removed leaving unattractive marks.The inscription on the verso of the frontispiece reads "A Monsieur Ed Lockroy, Député de la Serie, Minstre du Commerce & de l'Industrie, Commissionaire Genéral de l'Exposition de 1889. Hommage du plus profond respect de A. Bresson, 30. 7e. de 86". Edouard Lockroy, French radical politician (1838-1913) who served with Garibaldi for 3 years after 1860 is best known for arranging the Paris Exposition of 1889. In his capacity as Commissioner General he published the tender in May 1886 for a 1,000 foot tower to be the centre of the Exposition, eventually the Eifel Tower.
