Mit besonderem Fokus werden dabei die Motive der beteiligten Akteure herausgearbeitet und potentielle Effekte des Freihandelsabkommens zwischen der EU und den USA im Bereich von gentechnisch veränderten Organismen (GVO) aufgezeigt, da die GVO und derenProdukte in Lebensmitteln bei den TTIP-Verhandlungen ein zentrales Thema einnehmen.Zunächst wird im zweiten Kapitel ein Überblick zur zunehmenden Bedeutung von Freihandelsabkommen mit ihren Zielen und Effekten in der internationalen Handelspolitik, gegeben. Im dritten Kapitel werden der aktuelle transatlantische Handel mit Waren und Dienstleistungen sowie Direktinvestitionen zwischen der EU und den USA näherbeleuchtet. Schließlich werden der Verhandlungsverlauf und die inhaltlichen Schwerpunkte des TTIP-Abkommens vorgestellt.
