Early edition of this rendering of sacred melodies into modern musical notation. Octavo, written in English and Armenian, bound in full brown cloth with gilt titles to the spine, gilt cross vignette to the front panel, musical stanzas throughout. Written down in modern musical notation by Amy Apcar. In good condition with rubbing and losses to the spine. 'Melodies of Five Offices in Holy Week According to the Holy Apostolic Church of Armenia' transcribed in modern notation by Amy Apcar, represents a landmark effort in the preservation and transmission of Armenian sacred music. Published in the early twentieth century, the work captures the rich modal and chant traditions of the Armenian Apostolic Church, translating an oral and neumatic musical heritage into a system accessible to Western-trained musicians and scholars. Apcarâs transcription not only serves as a vital ethnomusicological document but also bridges Eastern liturgical practice and Western musical notation, contributing to the comparative study of Christian chant traditions.

Erstausgabe
English translation of 18th-century autobiography detailing the life of an Armenian patriot dedicated to liberating his people from Persian and Ottoman rule. Royal octavo, two volumes, original publisher's cloth with gilt titles to the spine, illustrated with two plates and one map. In very good condition, inscription to the half-title page. Written by himself. Edited by his great-great-granddaughter Amy Apcar. Joseph Emin (1726â"1809) was an Armenian nationalist thinker and adventurer who played a notable role in early efforts to promote Armenian political autonomy in the eighteenth century. Born in Persia and later educated in Britain, Emin sought European support for the liberation of Armenia from Ottoman and Persian control, combining Enlightenment political ideas with a developing sense of national identity. His memoir, The Life and Adventures of Joseph Emin, provides a rare autobiographical account of Armenian political aspirations during this period and remains an important source for understanding early modern Armenian diasporic activism and transnational diplomacy.
