Verlag: Issac Amso, Ninevay[?] Mosul, Iraq, 1920
Postcards. Zustand: At Least Very Good. Warning - disturbing content. A small true crime collection of six postally used RPPCs, all carrying "1920 Mosul" (northern Iraq) cancels and "1/2 An. Iraq in British Occupation" overprinted stamps. All photos developed onto generic postcard stock with each having an ink caption on verso, minor soil and stains, and some silver mirroring along bottom edge of one photo. While the photographic expertise of the images in this collection is questionable (they are all period photos of original photos) the history, and sad gruesome brutality of the deeds which ended in an Iraqi public square, is not. "Abboud and Khajawa were Iraqi serial killers and cannibals. They were convicted of murdering and eating the remains of an elderly neighbour and dozens of children in Mosul in 1917, luring most of their victims with the help of their young son. Considered some of the worst criminals in the country's history, the pair were sentenced to death and subsequently hanged for their crimes in 1917." wiki. One photo is credited in the negative "Issac Amso Photographer Ninevay[?] Mosul, Iraq" An historical, and very graphic photo document, supplemented by the many explanatory ink fountain pen captions noted on versos.
