It stuck up for Julius and Ethel Rosenberg when even many on the Left were cowed, covered global events as well as the burgeoning Civil Rights movement, Catholic anarchism, and (perhaps most controversially of all) the Puerto Rican nationalist movement, members of which had attempted to assassinate President Harry Truman in 1950 and wounded five lawmakers in a 1954 shooting at the US House chamber.
