Paper label to the front board with decorative gilt border and "Prezzo Franchi 25." With 40 engraved plates (dated between 1832 and 1841), each signed and dated (in the plate) by the artist. Extremities worn. Head and tail of the spine starting. Light stains to the front and back boards. Light foxing throughout, heavy on the first plate. Offsetting throughout. Not paginated. A new collection of ancient and modern views of the alma city of Rome, drawn from life and engraved by Domenico Amici presents prints of Roman monuments and historical buildings, such as the Colosseum, Vatican, Pantheon and Trevi Fountain. They are dated between 1832 and 1841. Domenico Amici (1808-1871) was an Italian draughtsman and etcher. He studied the work of Italian artist Luigi Rossini, active in early 1820, who was known for his masterful etching and architectural draughtsmanship of Roman ruins.

Bound with: In addition to the two volumes, there is an engraving by Parboni and Acquaroni after Cockerell of the reconstructed forum entitled 'Antico Foro Romano'. Ref.: Rossetti, ii: 363, 365 Condition: The binding with minor abrasions and marks of usage. Contents with occasional minor blemish but generally clean. Notes: Although both works are dated 1839, the 'Obelischi' contains 5 plates dated 1840. Rossetti mentions an edition entitled 'Raccolta di trenta vedute degli obelischi, scelte fontane e chiostri di Roma' (Rossetti 365). Presumably, our copy of 'Obelischi' is an earlier version with only 20 plates, which does not correspond to the later edition with 30 plates. The different title, 'Obelischi, pubbliche fontane e chiostri della Città di Roma', on our copy could explain this discrepancy.

Einband beschabt und etwas bestoßen; Rücken mit einigen winzigen Bezugsfehlstellen; Deckelkanten und Ecken mit kleinen Bezugsläsuren; Vordervorsatz geknittert; etwas stockfleckig (Titel und wenige Tafeln stärker) und teils im weißen Rand auch etwas fingerfleckig; Titel und die ersten 4 Tafeln etwas wasserrandig (außerhalb von Text und Abbildungen); etwas ungerade bzw. unsauber beschnitten, was jedoch durch die breiten weißen Ränder nicht so tragisch sein sollte; Bibliothekszettel auf dem vorderen Innendeckel, Stempel auf dem Titel. Größe der Abbildungen ca. 11 - 11,5 x 7 - 7,5 cm (Blattgröße ca. 23,5 x 18 cm) - jeweils mit italienischer Benennung oberhalb und französischer Benennung unterhalb der Abbildung.
