(photographs, ads, graphics) Program book for the fifth recipient of the American Cinematheque Award, child actor-turned-big-time-director Ron (nee Ronnie) Howard. One of those almost-contentless "tribute" programs that primarily s…erve to tout the achievements (real and aspirational) of the sponsoring organization. There are not just one but three, count 'em, three, introductory letters from various leadership figures at the AC (including then-Chairman Sydney Pollack and Artistic Director/Founder Gary Essert); lists of people on various boards, committees, and councils; credits galore for the event itself; and three pages touting the "permanent home in Hollywood" that the AC was supposedly going to build (but never did) adjacent to Mann's Chinese Theater. There is ONE page that's actually got some information about Ron Howard -- a titles-only list of his credits as an actor and director -- but the majority of the booklet is taken up by congratulatory ads extorted from -- er, sponsored by various companies and professional colleagues. (The only one of which is even slightly interesting being a full-page all-text ad entitled "When we were shooting Splash," in which Tom Hanks relates a personal anecdote illustrating Howard's "even temperament, calm ability, and steady influence" as a director.) Laid in is a folded, single-sheet rundown of the evening's festivities (the invitation, essentially) and the original envelope in which it was contained.
