Schilderungen von Gewalt gibt es bereits in Homers Odyssee,und schon im Römischen Reich wurde über die negativen Einflüssevon Gladiatorenkämpfen auf den menschlichen Charakter diskutiert.Seit den 70er Jahren ist die Zahl von statistisch erfassten Gewalttaten inDeutschland drastisch gestiegen. 1984 wird neben dem öffentlichrechtlichenauch der privatwirtschaftliche Rundfunk zugelassen. Seithernimmt die Häufigkeit von Gewaltdarstellungen in den Medien rasant zu.Geschehen in der heutigen Zeit besonders abstoßende, unverständlicheGewalttaten, müssen die Medien und der Konsum von medialer Gewaltoft als Erklärung herhalten. Für ein breites Publikum ist diese Erklärungleicht verständlich und, zumindest auf den ersten Blick, offensichtlich.Neben Vorschriften des Jugendschutzes u.a. verbietet auch131 StGBGewaltdarstellungen. Das Besondere dieser Norm ist, dass ihre Intentiondarin liegt, Erwachsene bzw. die Öffentlichkeit generell, vor dem Konsumvon medialer Gewalt zu 'schützen'.
