Meines Erachtens ist dieses Werk jedoch auch für Psychologen, insbesondere natürlich Neuropsychologen wertvoll. Die im Jahr 2000 erschienene zweite Ausgabe von "Skalen und Scores in der Neurologie" wurde im Vergleich zur ersten Ausgabe um drei sehr wichtige Kapitel ergänzt: Neuropsychologische Störungen, Sprach- und Sprechstörungen sowie Geriatrisches Assessment. Einleitend findet der Leser auf 60 Seiten eine Einführung in die "biomedizinische" bzw. allgemein in die ('sozialwissenschaftliche') Statistik. Kurz erläutert werden hier Begriffe und Vorgehensweisen wie beispielsweise die Klassische Testtheorie, Gütekriterien, die Aufgaben von Diagnostik, Verteilungen, Formulierung und Überprüfung von Hypothesen. Darauf folgen die Kapitel "Symptomorientiere Skalen und Scores" (130 Seiten), "Syndrom- und krankheitsorientierte Skalen und Scores" (300 Seiten!), "Altersgebundene Skalen und Scores" (100 Seiten) und "Syndrom- und krankheitsunabhängige Scores" (50 Seiten). Unter den symptomorientierten Skalen und Scores finden sich u.a. folgende Themen: Erfassung der Muskelkraft, spastische Paresen, Paresen der Gesichtsmuskulatur, Motorik- und Koordinationsstörungen, Extrapyramidale Bewegungsstörungen, Vigilanzstörungen, Schmerz, Emotionale Störungen, Mentale Störungen, Neurolinguistische Störungen, Neuropsychologische Störungen. Das Kapitel der syndrom- und krankheitsbedingten Skalen und Scores beinhaltet u.a. folgende Untereinheiten: Vaskuläre Erkrankungen des ZNS, ZNS-Tumore, Entzündliche Erkrankungen des Nervensystems, Virale Infektionen des ZNS, Guillain-Barré-Syndrom, Demyelinisierende Erkrankungen des ZNS, Extrapyramidal-motorische Syndrome, Dystonien, Gilles-de-la-Tourette-Syndrom, Chorea Huntington, Parkinson-Syndrom, Traumatische Schädigungen des Nervensystems, Traumatische Schädigungen des peripheren Nervensystems, Polyneuropathien, Kopfschmerzerkrankungen, Epilepsie sowie metabolisch, toxisch und medikamentös bedingte neurologische Störungen. Alles in allem gefällt mir persönlich dieses Nachschlagewerk sehr gut, wenn es auch aufgrund seiner Aufmachung nicht gerade zum Schmökern einlädt. Hätte man jedoch mehr Wert auf Übersichtlichkeit gelegt sowie mehr Bilder und Farben verwendet, wäre "Skalen und Scores der Neurologie" jedoch sicherlich nicht nur (noch!) umfangreicher, sondern auch kostspieliger geworden. Wichtig zu wissen ist, dass das Buch eine Übersicht über Untersuchungsinstrumente gibt, die ohne apparative Hilfe ausgeführt werden können. Instrumente, die apparativer Hilfe bedürfen, sind somit ausgeklammert und an anderer Stelle nachzuschlagen. Positiv finde ich, dass einige Verfahren abgebildet sind. Wünschenswert, aber sicher schlecht möglich, wäre dies für alle Verfahren (bei denen eine Abbildung möglich ist). Ich persönlich würde mir wünschen, dass der (neuro-)psychologische Bereich in diesem Werk einen (noch) wichtigeren Stellenwert einnimmt und dass die Neuauflage Hinweise auf die deutschen Titel der Testverfahren enthält, da hiermit enormer Zeitaufwand eingespart werden kann. In der hier vorliegenden zweiten Auflage sind vor allem englischsprachige Tests abgebildet und erläutert und vielmals wird gar nicht darauf eingegangen, dass es eine deutsche Ausgabe gibt und wie diese heißt (z. B. ADS im Deutschen statt CES-D im Englischen). Alles in allem hat das Werk des Chefarztes der neurologischen Abteilung der Edith-Stein-Fachklinik in Bad Bergzabern zwar einen stolzen Preis, es ist in der Regel jedoch eine einmalige, durchaus lohnenswerte Anschaffung.
