Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. 12vo, [18], 166pag. Bound in full original vellum. Alisnet studied medicine at the University of Cervera, a profession he has held since 1731. His work activity is divided into two stages: the first (from 1735 to 1755) was developed in Extremadura, where he became the titular doctor of MÃ rida (1750- 1755). The second stage of his professional activity was in Aranjuez, where he worked as a family doctor until his retirement. In his appointment, which Alsinet himself attributed to Ricardo Wall, his acknowledged experience in the treatment of malaria, endemic in Extremadura (where he was known as the Doctor of the Tertians) and with a high incidence also in the Royal Site of Aranjuez, influenced. A follower of one of the dominant trends in European medicine at the time, Alsinet was a strong supporter of a rational empiricism and defender of the value of experience and observation in the face of mere traditional bookish erudition. The repeated references to authors such as Thomas Sydenham, Gerhard van Swieten, Hermann Boerhaave and the Hippocratic writings, classical models of clinical empiricism, attest to their scientific positioning. His professional experience in the treatment of malarial fevers appears in the book New Utilities of the Cinchona (1763), which he extended in 1774 with a detailed study of this remedy and the formula he devised to eliminate its bitterness.
