Carl Alsberg (1877-1940) was a promient American chemist and the second commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (then known as the Bureau of Chemistry) appointed by Taft in 1912. After leaving the post in 1921, he joined the faculty at Stanford as Director of the Food Research Institute.
