Large 4to. (337x265mm), pp: x+198,[2], half title, frontispiece by Dr. P.P. Sushkin and 24 coloured plates by F. W Frohawk, Corrigenda leaf tipped-in before 'List of Plates'. An English translation by John Marshall, M.A., of the author's first edition which was published in Russia in 1904, foxing to prelims & a few plates not affecting image & final plate foxed. In original green cloth, gilt, with gilt title rubbed to spine, otherwise very good, tight & sound. All the known species and subspecies of Paleartic geese are described and figured. The text consists of an introduction with a general account of the group of birds dealt with, a key to the genera, species and subspecies, and a discussion to the individual species or subspecies.

A very pleasing copy. Dedication copy from Rowland Ward which reads 'Captain Stanley Flower, with Rowland Ward[s] Kind Regards 1906' to ffep. Captain Flower (1871-1946) was Director of the Cairo Zoological Gardens, Egypt between 1898 - 1924.
