In den WarenkorbLeather. Zustand: Very Good. First edition. Three volumes of Almon's notable anthology of works, bound in a handsome contemporary tree calf binding, with gilt detail. A mixed edition, as is common with this work. Volume one is the first edition with 'New Edition' to title page, as called for. The reference to a 'former edition' relates to Almon's previous collection 'The New Foundling Hospital for Wit' and not an earlier edition of this work. With the advertisement leaf referencing that volume two is in production. T139969, with the longer pagination. Volume two is also the first edition with no additional information stated to the title page. Volume three is a later edition published in 1799. Volume three first published in 1789. A fourth volume was also published in 1793, which is not present in this set. Duodecimo. Compiled by John Almon, a London bookseller closely linked to the Whig opposition. A collection of letters, poetry, prose and much more, providing a snapshot of Georgian literary tastes. Features works from notable authors such as Samuel Johnson, Hannah More and Oliver Goldsmith. The work is generally considered a follow-on to Almon's earlier and very successful 'The New Foundling Hospital for Wit'. In full contemporary tree calf with gilt detail. Externally smart with slight bumping to extremities. Slight loss to head and tails of spines and minor rubbing to the joints, resulting in slight cracking and weakening. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with just the odd spot. Very Good. None (illustrator). book.…
