The work is divided into two parts. Part I. contains an enumeration of the species and hybrids which have been used as parents, these being arranged in alphabetical sequence, followed by the name of the resulting hybrid. Part II. contains, (1) an alphabetical enumeration of existing hybrids, each under its adopted name, followed by (2) the names of its parents, (3) references to descriptions and figures, (4) the name of the raiser or exhibitor, (5) date of first flowering, and (6) synonymy, these being followed in a few cases by (7) a short additional note. About the Author:- Robert Allen Rolfe (1855, Wilford, Nottinghamshire 1921) Richmond, Surrey was an English botanist specialising in the study of orchids. For a time he worked in the gardens at Welbeck Abbey. He entered Kew in 1879 and became second assistant. He was the first curator of the orchid herbarium at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, founded the magazine The Orchid Review, and published many papers on hybrids of different species of orchids. The genus Allenrolfea of amaranths was named after him by Carl Ernst Otto Kuntze. He was buried in Richmond Cemetery Charles Chamberlain Hurst (18701947) was an English geneticist. He had hoped to read Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, but became ill at a critical time, possibly with tuberculosis, and this prevented him attending, although he recovered and led an active life thereafter. He was famous for his work on hybridisation and breeding in orchids, but also for carrying out early studies into eye colour genetics (demonstrating the dominance of brown eyes over blue in 1905), and animal coat coloration (in subjects ranging from horses to chickens) The Title 'The Orchid Stud-Book written/authored/edited by Robert Allen Rolfe', published in the year 2021. Despite its niche area of topic, the periodical grew in popularity over time and it continues to this day under the Royal Horticultural Society.
