Name on front pastedown; last page and rear fep marked, else internally tight and clean, but covers are damp-stained and rather faded; spine ends a little bumped. Boo…k was bound for the publishers by Westleys & Co, London. Used vg minus copy, but a scarce book by an eye-witness in Naples shortly after Garibaldi's seizure of the city in September 1860. Bicknell was probably also the last intimate friend of the artist J. M. W. Turner. The book is important in the history of photography, because of the real photographic plate, a portrait of Garibaldi, that is laid on to the frontispiece. The photograph was taken on 7 November 1860, when Garibaldi accompanied Victor Emmanuel on his triumphal entry into Naples. Because of this real photograph and the book's scarcity, a copy is held in the Photography Collections of the Harry Ransom Center, Texas.
