In 1927 1950 he worked in Buenos Aires, creating portraits there of Lenin, Moses, Tolstoy, and Beethoven. First edition, text in Spanish language by Alfredo Cahn (translator of Stefan Zweig). Alfredo Cahn (born Alfred Cahn October 28, 1902 in Zurich ; died July 19, 1975 in Córdoba ) was a Swiss - Argentine literary agent and literary scholar. Alfred Cahn had already become interested in literature as a teenager and had come into contact with Thomas Mann , Hermann Hesse and Stefan Zweig . He worked in Spain and emigrated to Argentina with his Spanish bride in 1924. In Buenos Aires he worked as a journalist and translator. After the Nazis seized power in the German Reich in 1933, he looked after German-speaking refugees and in particular Stefan Zweig, whose work he translated into Spanish in 16 volumes. In 1940 he organized a reading tour for him and in 1942 Cahn published The Chess Novel with the help of the bookseller Lili Lebach in her publishing house Pigmalión . With the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War , Buenos Aires became the center of Spanish-language literature and Cahn worked there as a literary agent. He brokered literature in North America and Europe and in the 1950s brought Max Frisch and Friedrich Dürrenmatt to the Latin American book market. From 1957 to 1964 Cahn held a professorship for French and German literature at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. MSS8.
