Wright und Cumming behandeln in ihrem Buch die gesamte Werkstoffkette: (1) chemische Grundlagen (Polyester und Polyether Polyole, TDI/MDI Systeme); (2) Prepolymer Technologie und Kettenverlängerer (u.?a. MOCA); (3) Struktur Eigenschafts Beziehungen; (4) mechanische Kennwerte (Abrieb, Reißfestigkeit, Modul, Härte); (5) Verarbeitungstechniken (Gießen, Spritzverfahren, Beschichtungen); (6) industrielle Anwendungen in Maschinenbau, Bergbau, Fördertechnik und chemischer Verfahrenstechnik. Das Buch gilt damals wie heute als Standardwerk der ersten PU Generation. Es dokumentiert den Stand der Technik unmittelbar vor der industriellen Dominanz von MDI /Polyether Systemen in den 1970er Jahren. In der Fachliteratur wird es bis heute als Referenz für historische Materialkennwerte und frühe Prepolymer Technologien zitiert. Technikgeschichtlich indiziert das Erscheinen unseres Buches eine Wende: In den 1960er Jahren expandierte die Nutzung von Polyurethanen rasant.
