He was Secretary-General of the national pro-NATO campaigning body Peace Through NATO and was awarded the OBE in the 1994 New Year's Honours. Martin A. Smith was Senior Lecturer in Defence and International Affairs at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. His publications in the field of European and international security include On Rocky Foundations: NATO, the UN and Peace Operations in the Post-Cold War Era. This book explores the question of where power lies in the post-Cold War world.
