Première édition en librairie de la volumineuse thèse de doctorat en médecine de l'auteur. Cet ouvrage novateur est divisé en trois parties: la première concerne l'évolution, non compliquée, du croup après la trachéotomie, et les précautions à prendre; la seconde partie est consacrée aux accidents et complications imputables à la trachéotomie, et dans la dernière partie, Sanné rapporte 31 observations détaillées. Albert Sanné avait été interne de Trousseau et d'Ernest Barthez. Cette monographie est basée sur l'analyse de 662 observations de croups opérés de trachéotomie. Sanné, qui se consacra à la pédiatrie, s'est beaucoup investi dans l'étude de la diphtérie.
