A further census of gannets (Sula bassana) on Ailsa Craig, by a combination of direct counts and the alighting method, gave approximately 5945 nests, an increase of about 24% on t…he previous year's census. 2. This increase was found to be localized in definite regions. 3. The effect of oiling on the population of gannets is considered. 4. The use of the alighting method in correlating the diurnal activity of the gannets, suggested a relation between activity and wind, and the possibility of a distinct rhythm. Inscribed by Author(s).
